Lookingback,asparticipantsoftheancientDianculture,SongmingresidentslefttheirfootprintsearliestinthePaleolithicperiod.Inthes,SongmingpeoplechanceduponevidenceofancienthumanslivinginHuanglongMountaininthenorthofthecounty:someroughly-madestonetabletsandaxes.Withthesparkedofthesestoneimplements,civilizationevolvedinaboomingway.DuringtheWarringStatesPeriodwhentheChugeneralZhuangQiaoconqueredDian(Yunnan),thenewgroundwasopenedupintheancientDiancivilization,andSongmingwasincludedin“landsofplentythatextendeddozensofmiles”intheancientDianKingdom.YizhouPrefecturewasfirstestablishedinYunnanwithtwenty-fourcountiessetupintheWesternHanDynasty,atimefromwhichonacounty-basedsystembeguninSongming.
时间回溯。作为古滇文化的参与者，嵩明这个地域上最早期的人类足迹是在旧石器时代。上世纪80年代，嵩明人在不经意的活动中，于县城北面的*龙山发现了远古人类生活的证据：一些打制粗糙的石片、石斧。靠着这些石器打燧出的星星之火，文明快速演进。至战国庄蹻王滇，开创古滇文明新气象，嵩明就属于古滇国“肥饶数十里”之地。西汉，始在云南设置益州郡，置二十四县，嵩明地域成为县制。

NothingismoreimaginablethanthehistoryintheShuHanPeriod.IftheSongmingfolkloreaboutZhugeLiangsexpeditiontothesouthprovestrueandreliable,thenameofSongmingwouldhaveitsorigin.Ingeneral,thestoryunfoldsasitwasinAD,whenZhugesinvincibleandintrepidexpeditiontroopsstationedforawhileinYaolingMountaininSongming,andtheyarrestedandreleasedthelocaltriballeaderMengHuoseveraltimes,thusmakinghimsurrendersincerelyandestablishanalliancewithZhuge,knownas"Songmeng".Thiseventwasrecordedonasmallstonetablet,namedasGuMengTai.Nowadays,GuMengTaistillstandsinSongmingCounty,likeawitheringcourtieractingasahostagetohistory.
瑰丽的彩云从汉朝的想象里次第绽放，蜀汉已经马蹄飞扬。如果嵩明乡间关于诸葛亮南中之行的种种传说真实可靠，嵩明的名称就有了源头。大概情况是：建兴三年，诸葛孔明的南征大*像风一样踏平了落日。这些悍烈的*队在嵩明境内的药灵山停歇了一些时候，数次捉放地方部落首领孟获，令其屈服，筑台结盟，是为“嵩盟”。这段大叙事，刻录在一块小石牌上，人称古盟台，今天依然立于嵩明县城，像一个风蚀残年的旧臣，充当着历史的人质。

元跨革囊，驰骋西南诸番，在赛典赤云南治水的宏大事件中，一个名叫高阿况的知州出现在时光的节点上，他改嵩盟为嵩明，从此这个名称正式被记录于各种典籍的重要段落里。明代移民屯田，数十万人从中原似滚滚红尘入滇。这股声势浩大的洪流，使杨林拥有了大隐兰茂及他气贯长虹的文气余脉。
